Why Perfectly Divine?

You may be wondering why I hit on Perfectly Divine as a blog name. Well, it's because in essence we all are but we seldom think of ourselves as such.

It's common to say that something or other is perfectly divine, or simply divine, but we rarely use the term with regards to ourselves or even other people.

I believe it's our purpose in life to bring ourselves into balance as far as we can, be as magnificent as we can, and to connect with that divine essence. And I'm committed to helping myself and others drop the stories we tell ourselves that keep us from a state of gratitude and balance, that state of divine love that eludes us.

Until quite recently I was arrogant enough to think for a moment that when I identified the power of dropping our story and rewriting our lives I might have stumbled on something new.

Just to underline how wrong I was, I was drawn to attend a talk by a Botswanan sangoma - a traditional doctor - called Colin Campbell. I was drawn because Africa, and Southern Africa in particular, holds a special place in my heart. I appreciate the values of the Batswana I've met, and one of my cherished memories is of being on the Chobe river experiencing the sheer joy of elephants swimming and playing in the water just feet from our boat. I am so grateful for that moment.

I've also studied many healing methods and Colin was speaking at the Gaia Foundation in London, explaining the principles of Botswanan tradion. His insights into the traditional Batswanan belief system were fascinating and I was amazed, but delighted, to hear that when elders were asked about why people, organisations or nations behave in a certain way, they would ask: "What story are they telling?"

Not such a new way of thinking, then! There's a lot of wisdom in ancient cultures - and a lot of nonsense to blance it! But one thing I've learned, in common with the Batswana elders, is that when we drop our story, we can create the life we desire.

Tsamaya sentle!

Riches? They're all around

Darlings, are your credit cards gathering dust? Have you retreated into retail withdrawal? I bet when you look at your financial state you're tempted to say you're broke. But is that true?

The truth is that you will always have what you need in any given moment. Take a look around you. Do you actually need anything more than you have - right now? No, I thought not.

It's also true that there's never loss or lack. If something doesn't manifest in your life in one way, it does in another.

You may not have enough actual money right now, but is it possible that gold and riches are manifesting in another form? Take another look around and find where it IS, and be grateful for that. Wealth can appear in all sorts of forms - like a host of golden buttercups (or daffodils!). The poet Robert Browning calls them "the little children's dower" in Home Thoughts from Abroad, the children's rich inheritance. But aren't we all the richer for having such glorious flowers growing wild in our gardens?

That's something to be grateful for. It's when we learn to be grateful for what is and live our life in a balanced state of love that we start to grow - and can grow our material wealth too!
